Walt Disney Animation Studios Wikia

Melody Time is an animated anthology film in the Disney Animated Canon. It was first released on May 27, 1948, and was released to theaters by RKO Radio Pictures. Made up of several sequences set to popular music and folk music, the film is, like Make Mine Music before it, the contemporary version of Fantasia (an ambitious film that proved to be a commercial disappointment upon its original theatrical release). Melody Time, while not meeting the artistic accomplishments of Fantasia, was a mildly successful film in its own right. It is the fifth package film, following Saludos Amigos, The Three Caballeros, Make Mine Music, and Fun and Fancy Free.

Rating[]

Melody Time received a G rating by the MPAA. This is the tenth Disney animated movie to be rated as such in the US after Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, Fantasia, Dumbo, Bambi, Saludos Amigos, The Three Caballeros, Make Mine Music and Fun and Fancy Free.

Trivia[]

  • Most of the segments in this film were re-issued individually as standalone shorts in the mid 50's, but Trees and Bumble Boogie were compiled into a double bill as Contrasts in Rhythm.
  • The standalone short versions of Once Upon a Wintertime and Little Toot open with a musical variation of the Melody Time theme.
  • The film's copyright was renewed on May 9, 1975.[1]
  • The previews from the 1998 VHS are the same previews as on the 1999 VHS releases of Dumbo, Alice in Wonderland, The Sword in the Stone, Robin Hood, Mary Poppins, and Pete's Dragon.
  • The music of Little Toot can be heard in Mickey's Toontown (Disneyland) and Toontown (Tokyo Disneyland) as a background area.
