He was a professor of Social Sciences and a Photographer.

Since he was little, like any child, he liked to play soccer and fly a kite. However, his passion has always been music. In 1989, when he was 11 years old, he saw the Orquesta Caney at his school: “They let me sing with them and that's when I started to get emotional”. In 1994 Mauro was serving in the military. Something he never wanted to do, "I didn't want to go to the traffic lights, or to take care of concerts". So the orchestra 'La Nueva Era', from the Police, was his refuge. He thus rendered the service and fell more in love with the music. During four years of hard study and work, Mauro received three 'Petronio Álvarez': awards dedicated to the music of Colombian Pacific folklore.

His first recognition came with the Bemtú Orchestra, the second when he composed the song 'El alboroto', and the third came in 2001 singing with a university group called 'Quinte piso'. At the end of 2001, the teacher Jairo Varela called him to be part of the Grupo Niche. Songs like 'Ganas', 'Enamorada', 'Es loca o es mala', were sung by Mauro on many of his tours with one of the best salsa groups in the country. In 2011, he released his first single 'Come and go'. A year later his first album 'Baila salsa' arrives, and he makes his debut in the telenovela 'El Joe, la leyenda', playing the character of Wilson 'Saoko' Manyoma.
