Jenny Sarah Slate (born March 25, 1982) is an American stand-up comedian, actress, voice actress and author. She voices Assistant Mayor Bellwether, the main antagonist of Zootopia.

She is best known for her role as Donna Stern in Obvious Child, as well as being the co-creator of the Marcel the Shell with Shoes On short movies and children's book series.

She is also known for her season as a cast member on Saturday Night Live from 2009 to 2010 and for her appearances in shows such as House of Lies, Married, Parks and Recreation, Bob's Burgers, Hello Ladies, Kroll Show and Girls.

Slate was born in Milton, Massachusetts. She studied at Milton Academy and Columbia University. In 2012, Slate married Dean Fleischer-Camp. They separated in 2016.

Career[]

Slate wrote the script for a reboot of the Looney Tunes franchise for Warner Bros. She co-created and voiced Marcel, a talking shell with an Oobi eye and a pair of doll shoes, in Marcel the Shell with Shoes On.

Slate's first major role in a film was as Zoe, an antagonist, from Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked. She starred in Obvious Child, which won her the Critics' Choice Movie Award for Best Actress in a Comedy.

She also provided the voices of Ted's mom in The Lorax, Gidget in The Secret Life of Pets, Harley Quinn in The Lego Batman Movie, Pony Head in Star vs. the Forces of Evil, Miss Nanny in the 2018 reboot of Muppet Babies and Valerie Da Vinci in Despicable Me 3.
