The two actors appeared in two further films together, Mary Reilly and Amazing Grace, before eventually playing the Dumbledore brothers in the Harry Potter films (although Albus and Aberforth were never on-screen together).

His other roles include appearances in the Oscar-nominated film In Bruges (in which his role was uncredited, and which also starred Brendan Gleeson, Ralph Fiennes, and Clémence Poésy); the spy thriller Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, starring Gary Oldman, John Hurt, Toby Jones, Simon McBurney and Roger Lloyd-Pack.; and the 2012 horror film The Woman in Black, starring Daniel Radcliffe.

He also voiced Botticelli, the lead antagonist of the 2009 animated film The Tale of Despereaux, which also featured the voices of Emma Watson and Robbie Coltrane.
